Choosing Your Wedding Veil Graeme/ August 20, 2018 A wedding dress will never be complete without the right wedding veil. It is an iconic accessory that belongs to the bride alone. Wedding veils have many designs, lengths, and styles, from which to choose. Any bride who is hands-on when it comes to her own look, would step in and make the effort to select the right veil. With so many confusing choices out there, what is a bride to do? Here are some tips on choosing the right wedding veil for that special day: • Consider your hairstyle on that day. After choosing your gown, talk to your hairstylist and discuss how you are going to wear your hair that day. Will your hair be showered with flowers and jewelry? Will you be wearing a bridal cap for your hairstyle or will you just be wearing your hair down? Your hairstyle will determine the placement of your veil and how the stylist will secure it. It would be best to have appointments for hairstyle trials to help with your wedding veil decision. • Choose the color that complements your wedding gown. Your veil’s color should be very close to the color of your wedding gown. The two components of your bridal ensemble do not need to match at all. One good theme to choose for your wedding is the heirloom theme. It would mean that the veil would appear to be the lighter version of your heirloom wedding gown. • Consider the length. Think about the length of the veil. During your first gown fitting, try on different lengths of different veils as well. The veil should be long enough to complement your silhouette. Make sure that it does not interrupt the look that you want. Some brides leave it to their designers, but if you want to have a say about your veil, try to suggest the length that you like. Be open to other lengths. What you want might not really complement your wedding dress. • Balance your gown with an embellished veil. If you have chosen a simple gown without any detailed extras, an unexpected embellished wedding veil would complete your bridal look. Choose a veil that has a variety of textures, shapes, and accents. It is never easy to choose anything if you are the bride at your own wedding. Choosing a wedding veil may seem like a small, insignificant matter to someone else, but to a bride, it is a “make or unmake” decision. Choose your veil well. It will be your crown on your red-letter day.
